So right now we have 2 hens that are laying and 10 that will start very soon. I can not seem to make my two layers lay in the nesting box of the coop. I have tried gold balls and the fake eggs, and they continue to lay in the middle of the coop. Which is fin for 2 eggs, not for 12! Any help on how you guys have gotten youra to lay in the box? Thanks for the advice in advance.

I used plastic and ceramic eggs. I had the same issue at first with my EE. She would be on line for the fave NB and would lay her egg while waiting. The others laid next to her egg on the floor. Eventually they got it together. Seven hens four nesting boxes and there is always a line for the most popular box. I would keep the fake eggs in the NB and put one of theirs in there as well. Good luck.

I had the same problem in one of my layers and i posted it in one of the threads. What i did was, i locked her up in the nesting box (no eggs inside the box as she might break it) until she laid her egg. The next morning, she started using the NB. Problem solved :)

It truly comes down to the bird. Hens can very picky on where to lay there eggs. You'll get it resolved. No worries.:)

I got my first first egg on the 5th from one of my hens, and this morning she put it in the nesting box for the first time. lucky me, I had 2 others bustling around in the nesting boxes when I checked also. All I did was throw some golf balls in there. I also noticed about 4 days ago, the straw was all moved around and a few feathers were laying around in them.

Mine lay in different spots all over the coop. One lays mostly in the nesting box, the other likes to lay on the floor by the door.

I put alfalfa hay in the nesting boxes, but they just move it to where they want to lay. Silly birds.
