Hi there, I have an exchequer leghorn that rarely lays. She acts timid, but is very healthy.. I think she’s only laid 6 eggs, and she’s 2. She has access to food, water, oyster shell and grit, I have 5 total. When snacks are given, she is not an aggressive eater.. Any ideas?

Hi
I only have two girls, they both stopped laying at around two and a half years which I put down to their total lack of interest in eating layers pellets. Try as I might to get them to carry on they just didnt want to know, so their protein levels reduced to the point where they could no longer make any eggs. I am not overly worried, they are happy enough. Is your one actually getting enough protein do you think? Its difficult to know when you have several, sometimes the odd one gets crowded out and misses out a bit on food but hard to find out I guess. She may pick up again, you never know. Good luck.

I think this may be part of the issue. I have put her back in the coop with a yogurt to herself, a few times, and she will lay an egg… but I didn’t want to be giving too many snacks … maybe I should try that too. She is slow to approach food, and may be getting pushed out.

Snacks aren't going to get her to lay. If you think she's not getting enough feed overall, having multiple feeders spread out with clutter in between to break line of sight will give her more opportunities to eat.

That said, some birds are flat out duds when it comes to laying.
