I bought 2 buff orpingtons on May 10th. According to the farmer they were 16 weeks which would make them about 30 weeks now. They have had full red combs since mid July yet I still have not had a single egg! Am I doing something wrong? I suppose the farmer could have been wrong a out the age but I am getting worried.

There are a lot of things that can interfere and/or influence a hens abaility to lay. Stress, diet and hot or cold weather can play a part in her laying. We are waiting on a few of ours to lay as well. Just try to make sure you have the basics covered and also dont offer too many treats.

No they are not free range. They have an enclosed run attached to the coop. There are no "hiding" places. I've checked all my birds foe mites and lice and have found none. They have been on 16% egg ration since 22 weeks. I only feed them "treats" 1 or 2 times per week. Usually some yogurt, grapes or melon. None are molting and the temperature has be steady in the low 80's for about 2 weeks.

just looking at the pictures, I would say they are almost there. Not quite yet. Their combs and wattles need to get a tad bit bigger first. Have they been squatting for you at all yet? Ya know, spreading their wings out and putting their butts in the air? lol

If they start doing that, you know they are close! Our BO looks to be the same age as yours, and I know she isn't 30wks old yet...more like 25 or so...
