These cute little guys are 8 week old male packing peanuts from Ideal. The person at the hatchery said they were probably brown leghorns, but when they were very obviously not brown, i assumed they were white leghorns. Then it finally dawned on me today that they have red earlobes and couldn't be leghorns. But i have no idea what they are. Sorry if the pictures aren't very good.

They have red lobes, single combs, yellow feet, and entirely very white feathers.

What are they?

White Rocks

(That would be White Plymouth Rocks.)

Y'all are awesome! White rocks. That makes perfect sense! Thank you!

The pictures don't do the redness of their combs and earlobes justice. But i guess i need a comparison pic of a male white rock to make a better judgment.

The breed chart says white rocks are meat birds only. Do they lay well?

That's why you look up White Plymouth Rocks. Cornish Rocks are meat birds only. White Plymouth Rocks are dual-purpose. They work well as either meat or egg birds.

They are larger than Leghorns and lay brown eggs.

Thanks for the pointers.

I did look up white plymouth rocks.

The entries for plymouth rocks on this chart are still working out the kinks, i assume. The picture that looked like a white plymouth rock, and perhaps really wasn't one, says "meat bird" under purpose.

Nonetheless, i am very excited that these might be good female egg layers. They are turning out to be pretty sweet birds.

Thanks everyone!
