Not letting chickens out of closed run changing into coop shoes

Hi! Question for those with walk-in coops. We’ve upped biosecurity precautions due to H5N1 being found in the bordering provinces/states. We haven’t quite nailed the set up for changing out shoes without keeping the door ajar to step in without walking inside with regular yard shoes. How do others deal with this?

I keep Western Chief boots by the back door of my house. I only use those to enter my backyard which has my chicken runs and coops. I tend to the birds, then I step out of my boots at a boot catch in my sunroom.

I keep the Western Chief boots oversized so I can simply step into and out of them.

I never, ever go out into the backyard with street or house shoes. Keeps poo tracking out of the house, and contaminant tracking out of the chickens yards as the chickens can free range in my yard at times.

I also keep a "chicken coat" by the back door as well, and I only use that to tend my birds (well over inside clothing LOL). It's large and covers most of my clothing.

Works for me.

I do almost the same.

For quarantining birds, I have a pair of slip on garden shoes that I keep right outside the coop door along with a different coat. I just slip off my shoes, step into the garden shoes, don the coat, and walk in the coop.

If you are going so far as to include a boot washing station, I've done that, too. I just keep a lidded box of bleach water next to the door to the run. With the rain boots on, take the lid off, step on the box, step out, and do my thing.
