Hello all -
I used to be on BYC - but have been gone for about a year. In October 2011 we received an amazing job offer and jumped on it. At the time we were living in North Idaho and had a nice size flock of layin chickens along with about 20 muscovey ducks (and of course my goats, cows, horses, we ended up selling and rehoming all but 16 of my dairy goats.
We now live just North of Corpus Christi TX and we are homesteading on 25 acres that we purchased. We brought 16 goats with us, who stayed at a "temp" farm where there ended up being some issues and lost 2 of my goats..... ugh - but we are up to 25ish goats going into winter.
Although I didn't bring any birds with us - we realized very quickly that the "bug problem" was horrid - mainly ticks. UGH!!! My husband said NO to chickens or ducks because back home they liked to poo all over our porch..... but people were telling me about guineas. He said yes to them only because everyone said they would stay away..... so we went and bought 5 keets. I worked with them - and one got out and disappeared. Now down to 4. They were finally released in the goat pens and did so well hanging out with them and bedding down with them.
Last week - I forgot to put the goats up before dark for bed - and my birds disappeared - i am devistated. I loved those birds and one of my lavenders would actually come up and sit on my lap to be petted. I can not find ANY anywhere around here - so thought I would pop on, update y'all and see if I could find some for sale
so here I am - I am back!!!!
