Hi everyone! I'm excited to share that I'm finally getting back into the "business" of backyard chicken raising. I'm certainly not new to this site as I joined way back in 2008 (10 years ago?!) when I was just a young chicken amateur...throughout my adolescent years, I was on this site practically every day. But since going through news jobs/college classes/moving/buying a home/etc. I've only occasionally peeked on the forums here to see what has changed (quite a lot has!) over the last few years...and now here I am, finally at a place in my life where I can start my own flock, and I couldn't be more excited!
We're currently in the process of converting a 6.5x7' shed into a coop (and garden storage- half coop, half garden) and I'm working on getting my hands on an incubator so that I can hatch out some silkie eggs! My longterm boyfriend and I have wanted our own flock of silkies for a while now. He has absolutely no experience with raising chickens, so it's going to be a pretty comical journey I think.
I'll mostly be referencing the forums to update the coop building progress and for questions when we begin incubating silkie eggs.
It's good to be back!
