Not producing enough eggs

My chickens were producing eggs at the end of summer. Then recently some of my flock got a bad cold, nasal congestion, cough. I immediately called our vet and they gave us a powder antibiotic. I started treatment right away and they begun to feel better within 3 days. They are still on there antibiotic but I will be weaning them off tomorrow. There egg production has definitely decrease. Im also feeding them Grubblies feed. Am I doing anything wrong????? Im worried??!! Thanks laura

Egg production drops when a bird is sick because their body is using those resources elsewhere. It will take a little time before they fully recover. Depending on where you are in the world, if you’re going into fall and daylight hours are getting shorter, that will decrease production as well, and they’ll pick back up in the spring. Thank you for this helpful information. Right now we are loosing daylight. We are in fall. I will be changing there water tomorrow and will keep giving them there grubblies treat. Mealworms and corn.

The feed that I am using is from North 40 called Chicken Egg layer comes in a purple bag and its pellets. My girls love them. Then I was getting from Amazon was dried mealworms. I heard this was not enough protein, calcium. Im also giving my girls there eggs shells when they lay. I wash them and crack them up really good. Now for there treat I am buying Grubblies feed. Corn and dried meal worm with soldier flies. You can look up Grubblies online.

Give them some time.
Just about everything stops hens laying. Stress and illness being a big factor.

They should have access to crushed oyster shell at all times. Their own eggshells won’t provide enough calcium and you may run into egg laying problems down the road like soft shelled eggs. My first year with my hens they only got layer feed and eggshells, and they were fine for a while, but we started getting thin shelled eggs and shelless eggs about a year in. Providing oyster shell helps with that problem.

Giving them the treats is a nice gesture but it's not gonna bribe them into laying. You can actually do harm giving them too much treats just like too much junk food can have on us.
