I called the hatchery that southern states got them from and sent an email with pics at their rquest. They called me a few hours later and told me thet are not br's, they are Commercial Blacks. They said they are bred for egg laying and lay 350 to 400 eggs per year and that they are mixed from a bunch of different breeds. They said they must have gotten mixed in withthe barred rock shipment by mistake.
That's not a good sign then. The only thing that I can think that they are referring to are Black SLs. They are high egg production hybrids, and can be gender IDed at birth. Unfortunately the males are the ones with the bars, where the females are pure black.
