Not really sure where to put this...

* It's just such an iffy proposition, releasing an animal meant to be a pet. . . We have a BIG flock of muschovies near here. . Folks feed em and all-- but, sometimes they get run over by jerks or hassled. MY biggest worry, tho-- IS THE WATER!!!

There are many good reasons to NOT dump critters and the stress and cruelty to the critter is only one. Yes to me it's the most important but please consider the others.

*It's illegal
*It's ruins the balance of the ecosystem. Any lake surrounded by humans with wild ducks in it is already way overtaxed.
*It brings about much stress and controversy to the public when they have to be rounded up and killed in order to clean up the huge mess (read poo overflow) they have caused.
*They present a public health risk by being carriers of disease and parasites to the water which is also for swimming.

Please educate yourself on this issue more and don't do it. I don't care how much you hae seen it done or done it in the past, history does not make something right!

I see that on a previous post that you said you are only 15. Please talk to your parents about this and show them the posts. Leaving a duck at the lake is no different than dropping a dog off in the woods. If your parents can't help, call your local 4H extention office or talk to an FFA advisor. They will know of local people that may want the duck. I know people on here sound harsh regarding this. As a person that has worked with animal rescues (wild and domestic), I sympathize with their point of view. Please don't convince yourself that it is OK to not rehome the duck and put it out on it's own. Regardless of what your friends tell you, there is risk to the animal. If you need help looking for people or resources in your area to help find a place for the duck, please PM me. Also, please don't hatch anymore.

Dumping domestic birds in community ponds also gives town employees and game wardens the unpleasant task of having to euthanizing them. This is a nasty thing to expect another person to do for you.

The idea of having a pretty duck of your own in your neighborhood pond does sound kinda cool.
You got defensive probably because you felt like everyone here stepped all over on your exciting plan!

I hope you had some time to cool down and think about what REALLY being said here.
People here love and care about birds as much as you do--Please trust the more experienced and take their advices.

I hope you find a good owner near by for your duckie so you can visit it time to time
I know everyone here would love to hear the updates from you

And maybe you can put your love for the animal to use by volunteering for animal rescue organization or start a fundraising at your school??
Don't let your cats or not having a pond in a back yard stop having what you care in your life--there are many other ways to have those beautiful birds--maybe not in your house at the moment, but in your life.

Best of luck to you and your birdie
