Not sitting on eggs (and color question)

OK, so my hens are starting to lay. But they drop the eggs and run off...They don't stay on them, like I pictured they would. Will they ever sit on them?

I have 9 EE's 1 Partridge Wyandotte, and 1 Minorca


Also, I have been getting blue and greenish eggs (from the EEs)

I have been getting brown from the Partridge...


And cream colored eggs, but not white.
I read the Minorca should large large white eggs. Is it possible she is laying cream colored eggs, or would these be from an EE? I have some many different 'style' EEs..that they could be bred with anything I think!

Cream may be from EE or your minorica.

As for setting, unlikly. It is a hormonal thing and you can't force it. I've never had an EE sit for me, but others have. Chickens are domesticaed animals which jobs are to lay egg and leave for us to collect. Ocassionally there will be a broody, but generally not so young and not with any breed bred for "laying."

I just found an egg that I thought was pink...though it's more likely a light tanish color with white peckles... I can't tell who's laying what!?


Now, I've read that my Wyandotte will be a good surogant mother, will she become broody or has that been bred out of her? What about the Minorca?

My girls drop their eggs get up and walk away, they did their job and are done.

As far as colors, My Lakenvelder should be laying white eggs I am getting brown.

My polish mix with white earlobes should be laying white and she is laying brown.

It is not always true to color, fortunetly I like brown eggs but wonder why the difference.
