Hi! I am totally unsure of my Americuana rooster. I believe he is about 3-5 months old (I had bought him when he was very young from someone). He is the sweetest thing ever.. but there's a couple problems. He doesn't crow (which is okay), but he does not have spurs! this is my first roo an I had bought him to protect my hens, but the joke is on me. all my hens attack him to where he doesnt even come out of the coop! He barely has buds where his spurs are supposed to be! is this a common trait among his breed? !! Or is he just still young? I'm very frustrated! please help!!!

I had a roo named Dagger. When i got him at 5 months old, my hens tried to kill him. I sent him back to live with the family i got him from until he was bigger. When he came back, he was 10 months old and taught my girls a lesson in being polite! Even then, he didnt have spurs.

Your roo just needs to get bigger and get some confidence.

Lets see a pic of him! :) Mine didnt start crowing til after 5 months so maybe he will start soon. Maybe you could separate him somewhere else in your yard until he gets a bit bigger then let him back in with the hens?

Thank you somuch everyone! Y'all have calmed my nerves incredibly! like I said this is my first roo an im scared im doing everything wrong!

Also- I had 5 cockerels (3 months) and got rid of the first 2 when they started crowing. Then pretty much overnight one of the other cockerels developed way more colour, started crowing and grew quickly to take over the lead role. I'm sure he will realize his role before long, especially once his male traits start getting more developed.
