Hi, I’m new to chicken raising and this forum, and I’ve found a lot of great info here in past. I have my first flock this year, with 15 chickens of mixed breeds, 13 hens and 2 roosters to the best of my knowledge. They’re all 19-21 weeks old. The roosters started crowing a few weeks ago and I noticed the larger rooster has started to push the hens down to mount them. Within the last day or so my barred rock has started to just squat wherever she is. If she walks it’s typically only a few steps and it’s more of a wattle, as if her feet are heavy and her butt is heavy, though she will still run to a fresh bowl of chicken feed. Her comb has also flopped over. She’s still eating, but will squat while eating. She’s 19 week hen and hasn’t laid eggs yet.
My question is, does this sound like she’s getting ready to lay first egg or is there something I’m missing that maybe she’s injured or sick? My biggest concern is how much bigger the rooster is that has started stepping on everybody to mount them, that she’s not sick or injured. But I’m hoping she’s just getting ready to lay first egg.

Would that cause any permanent debilitation or is it likely to resolve if I separate the rooster?

I hadn’t intended on having any roosters initially, but this particular rooster was from a batch said to be sexed as females. I’ve temporily separated him earlier this morning and am trying to figure my options to find another home for him. The other rooster is the only bantam of the flock and thus far doesn’t seem to be causing any problems.
