Thats not going to help at all in this instance, if the bird is egg bound and starting to prolapse, we have roughly 48 hours before she dies.I dealt with this earlier this spring. Isolated the bird. Gave her warm epsom salt baths 2x day. Gave her plenty of access to grit and oyster shell, her own food and water, sick bird formula and it cleared up after about 5 days. I was so relieved that it worked.
Thank you so much for your reply, I’m glad your chicken is okI dealt with this earlier this spring. Isolated the bird. Gave her warm epsom salt baths 2x day. Thank you! I added calcium to her feed already just as a precaution! What could be other problems that are going on?Sounds like she's constipated.
See that she's drinking well and eating her normal feed. If the problem continues, then offer wet feed and get 1tsp coconut oil into her twice a day for a few days.
She may still have some other problems going on, time will tell. It would be a very good idea to have Extra Calcium on hand.
After she pooped it went away. Is she not ok if the swelling went away? She’s eating, drinking, and moving around just fine. I gave her extra calcium just in case. She's prolapsing, this can be a crisis.
Can you feel an egg?
Get some Extra Calcium into her. Tums is o.k. in a pinch, but if you have Calcium Citrate with D3 that would be better.
The exposed tissue needs to be kept moist with ointment, oil or honey.
