sorry if I posted in the wrong place but I have a little question...

I built a new coop for the girls but they seem to sleep outside and not inside with the roosting area.
I was told to guide them inside and close the coop door to keep them safe from predators.
How many nights do you think it will take of guiding them inside and closing the door until they get the hint this is where they sleep?

Did they have an old coop they used to sleep inside of? They might not be recognizing the new one as home yet. When I moved my babies out to the coop I kept them locked in for about 5 days (they stayed longer because they were afraid to use the ramp to get out) but they always go back in now. They understand it's their home and where they sleep.

Also, if you have any kind of roost outside that is higher than the roost inside your coop they're gonna choose the higher one.

Mine didn't want to go in the coop when I took them out of the brooder because it was a bit dark in there. I changed out the roof panels on one side to the clear kind and they all marched into the coop that night. You might try a bit of light on the inside, chickens don't see well when it's dark.

Do you have any photos of the coop?
