i love my chickens but i want to breed purebreds. i am looking for a breed that can raise chicks and hatch eggs (but not alot). and has a pretty good temperment. and has good egg laying (like quantity). what are breeds that fit that. and if you have any info on them let me know please!!

I have ordered for the spring, Deleware chickens from Sand Hills Preservation. Delewares are suppose to be a mighty fine dual purpose bird, good layers, and good meat, although like all dual purpose breeds, a littler slower to grow to butcher size than meaties.

I have always had a hatchery flock, with quite a bit of cross breeding..... I have been happy with those flocks, but wanted to try something a bit more fancy.

Sand Hill has very nice Delawares. I have had Dels go broody, but not very often.
