Also in winter couldn't the nipple freeze up so the chook can't make it work anyway? Since they need to push it up to release the water, what if the water behind it was frozen?
My plan is to use an immersion type heater. Since the nipples will be right up on the bucket and don't hold water like the cups can, it shouldn't freeze. Others have mentioned using an aquarium heater with success. I'm afraid with the cups, any water that may be in the cup itself will freeze and stop up the whole operation, even with the water in the bucket being heated.
