Hello,
I have been gearing up for over a year now to get chickens..I am finally at the point where I am going to purchase baby chicks.
There are only two of us and I am wanting only egg laying chickens, but do not want a ton of eggs.
Right now the local feed store has Black Australorps and Buff Orpingtons. I have been reading that the Australorps lay a lot of eggs.
Can anyone suggest a breed that lays a minimum of eggs? I want to get two hens.
I live in Portland Oregon..thanks!

Have you checked the breeds pages? There is a ton of information and it tells you what type of producer they are too.

If you get more eggs than you want maybe you could feed them to your dogs? Or back to the hens? My BO's are really sweet birds. A few of them will come hop on my lap to be petted like a cat.

I don't have experience with them personally but I've heard cochins and brahmas don't lay as well as your more production type hens. But with a orpington/rock/etc, two hens are going to give you probably ten-twelve eggs a week. Maybe we eat a lot of eggs, but with baking and all, I think that'd be right on or even not quite enough. You can always give eggs away
