This chick has me completely stumped! I have only one of this particular breed, so I have nothing to compare to. I got her as a baby and supposedly sexed as a Blue Australorp (BA) pullet…..But seeing BA images on the internet, this chick doesn’t look anything like the pics I am finding.

The pic of her was taken 9/7, but she is now 17 weeks old. Not much of a comb there and no wattles still, but her tail feathers say roo to me. Thoughts??😁

Whatever she is, she is beautiful!! Looking pullet to me :)

Definitely a pullet, no way a cockerel would have such a small, pale comb at that age! O don't see anything about the tail end that would make me think maybe male.

As to breed, australorp is probably accurate. Blue is a highly variable color, ranging from nearly indistinguishable from black to such a pale grey it could be mistaken for white in the right lighting. Splash (the color you get when a bird has two copies of the blue gene) is just as varied. I'd say this bird is an unusually dark splash. Very pretty!
