I have a tiny little Lavender Silkie named Viola. He/She is by far my smallest chicken. He/She was born in March, so is about 4 months old. I bought her, along with 8 other chicks. 7 of the 9 turned out to be roos, and I had to give them away. Only 1 out of the 9 I know for sure was a hen. I have a few chicks that were born in May, and they are the same size or larger than him/her.
Her behavior is rather agressive. I have read that silkies are sweet, but she will bite, and rip at you like a dog. However, she is very social and will follow you everywhere. If you pet another chicken, she will come at you and try to bite you. But she is also short and round like a female. My chickens have a strong pecking order, and have 4 different generations of chickens. Since she is in the 3rd generation, she is low on the pecking order. This is why I feel she is so agressive, in order to state her dominance.
I do have 2 roosters that are the same age as her, and they are obviously roosters. One is a black copper maran, and he crows all the time. The other is an Americauna, and he never crows, but has long feathers and always stands tall.
She doesn't have a big fluffy head like I would hope for. In fact, has very little fluff on her top.
I know I can wait a few more months and see if she drops an egg. But she is so tiny that it will be a quail sized egg if she does.
Any ideas as to what sex you think Viola may be?
