Not sure where to start (In Illinois)

Do you have an outdoor open coop? I have a sheltered area, just have not decided on the housing situation. I do not want the little dears to freeze and my hubby said no to the garage and the shed.

As was said, do not get a rooster unless you want to provoke an in-your-face confrontation with neighbors or local authorities.

Roosters are absolutely not necessary for your hens to start laying eggs, only for fertile eggs.

I like to say I raise chickens because of my religion...God wants me to take care of them.

Also, they are pets and I do not make any profit from them in any way.

I live in the city on 1/2 acre so far my neighbors havent complained of my roo crowing but the easiest way is not to have a roo...hens really aren't noisy unless a preditor scares them then they make a racket... just dont let them get out of your yard...my yard is totally fenced
