Everyone is telling me my chickens should be laying but they're not. I have 21 week out barred, orpingtons, black stars. My orpington rooster is crowing and red but my barred rooster isn't doing anything. I'm feeding fermented food, oyster shells, worms and plenty of fresh vegs from the garden. They have access to plenty of sun.
I'm not sure what is wrong.
Also I got 4- 1 year old bird that were laying eggs. When I got them home they stopped laying and it's been a month. I really want my girls to be healthy. Is there something I'm doing wrong?!?

Welcome to BYC! :frow

Everyone (who's telling you that) seems to be forgetting that genetics vary and the chickens don't read or care what our books and information say they "should" do. That's still early for the stated breeds.

Fermented feed is over rated, mostly hype, has no impact on healthy birds, and creates NO savings if waste isn't an issue. My assessment after doing only FF for a flock of 82+ birds for 2+ years. Wetting feed into a mash has been shown to be AS beneficial as FF. What type is the feed your fermenting? (starter, layer, flock raiser, etc)

1 year old birds will possibly be approaching molt as daylight decreases. Do they free range where it's possible to hide a nest? The move, weather, new flock members etc.. may all be impacting this.

Hope you see eggs soon! :wee

How much veg and worms are you feeding compared to feed? It takes a lot of protein and calcium to make an egg. It's possible you're feeding too many snacks.
They just get a handful or two everyday of worms. I give them scrapes from our table. I have dry food available 24-7 to them.

I give them fermented layer feed mixed with scratch . I was told the 1 year Olds had just molted before I got them.
