Not-surgical treatment of quail bumblefoot?

I am using this thread to keep up with my quail's progress but it' taking much longer than I thought! It's two weeks into treatment and I don't know how effective the prescribed ointment was really :( . I sprinkled some oxymycin powder in the ointment yesterday, however, and it might be working. Reddish tinge on her toepads(?) is almost gone now, and the red swelling in her main pad seems to have developed a normal looking skin/callouse with slightly red infection and a core visible inside. I think it's getting better? I amdoing that oxymycin thing for 3, 4 days and will see what it looks like after that.

That sounds like progress! Do you wrap her feet after treating her? I'm trying a nonsurgical treatment for my hen, too. She gets an Epsom salt bath soak, then I dry off her feet, apply Bacitracin antibiotic ointment, put a little cotton on her footpads and between her toes, and wrap her foot up. It keeps her feet clean, helps the ointment last longer, and hopefully provides a little extra cushion on her feet (though she dislikes it).

Does your quail endure it..? Mine is quite rebellious so I wouldn't dare a soak or a wrap. Afraid that she would break her leg or something while writhing. I try to hold her for 5 minutes after applying the ointment for absorption, that's as far as my quail would let me do without raising alarm.

Ah, she does not enjoy it, poor thing. But she's quiet most of the time with occasional outbursts.

Well I initially wanted this thread to be a weekly report of my quail's progress(and to find alternatives when my treatment doesn't work), and I have to admit, I've been lazy. I only applied the prescribed ointment once a day right before she goes to sleep. Thankfully, despite the neglection on my part her feet looks definitely better, with the 'cores' not as reddish as before and it seems healthy tissues are slowly feeling up the formerly reddish-yellowish tender spots. I guess she would have recovered much sooner if I cared for her a little more. I am going to treat her feet at least twice a day when I find some time to spare...

Just as an alternative to the antibiotic ointment (as we are using much to much antibiotics), I can suggest Dexpanthenol ointments.

I am using it also for my kids and me for little wounds and persistant skin irritations.

I successfully treated one badly swollen bumblefoot (together with seasalt bath) and a few sore wounds of ripped nails with it on my quails.
