Not This Temp Throughout

Hey all. So I've modified my incubator a bit. Punched a couple holes in for ventilation, moved the bulb 3 or 4" lower:

I then added a pie plate to direct the light and heat downwards because the temp was sitting at 96°:

I moved the thermometer from the edge of the newspaper to the middle. Now, the temperature is a perfect (as shown above) 99° and 50% humidity.
I don't think it's this warm all over, though. Is it because of the fan, or is it because my styrofoam cooler isn't insulated enough?

The air might feel cooler next to the fan because it's moving, but the circulating air is supposed to warm everything more evenly, eliminating cool and warm spots. Have you tried moving the thermometer to test and see whether it finds a cold spot? (since your thermometer won't register a wind chill.)

The air might feel cooler next to the fan because it's moving, but the circulating air is supposed to warm everything more evenly, eliminating cool and warm spots. Have you tried moving the thermometer to test and see whether it finds a cold spot? (since your thermometer won't register a wind chill.)

I just read about one today that added a second fan because they did have cool spots. My suggestion would be to move daily to a different section just as you would a non circulated one... at least temporarily.

Though I can see there aren't eggs in there yet and your still trying to get it adjusted.

Yep, I am.
I'm thinking we might move up to a 30 watt bulb, if we can find it. It would up the degrees a bit, enough that we could move those finicky little pie plates.

My house rarely goes above 60 and I couldn't get my first still air styro incubator up to 102 even with the wafer turned all the way up. So after some research the answer was to add a blanket or something to that effect (I use old sweat pants) to the outside being careful not to block air holes of course. It worked like a charm!

Huh, I never imagined you could use a 30 watt bulb and was picturing 100 watts. Which would be quite different than the 23 used by the still air. I think the one with the fan might use around 50 watts. So it's nice that you are able to use lower than I was picturing.

I'm sure you will get it worked out. And then... happy hatching!
