not using roost

Tonight I went out and sat in the coop with them for a little while.
I watched them drag a bunch of the pine shavings into a pile and then dig a hole. They lay on there side kicking and flapping until they make a perfect bed, then they pull everything around them up nice and snug.
Then another chick will do the same, but in the process they disturb someone else's nest and they have to start all over.
It took them about a half an hour to work it all out.
It was so much fun watching them.

I always feel sorry for the ones that are settled in and then suddenly another decides to ruin it by jumping in. If I was a chicken, I'd be in a bad mood all the time

My 6 week olds still sleep on the ground but they play on the roosts during the day. When they are ready, they will be ready. And it is fun to watch them get the courage up to fly down.
