not using roost

My chicks are 11 weeks old and still are not using their roost. They have a roost about 2 feet off the ground as well as the bottom of an old ladder in their roost box. They just snuggle in their litter (pine shavings). Is that ok or will it cause problems later? Am I supposed to train them to use the roost?

Give them time.... I think mine were like 3-4 months old before they started using the roost. They'll start soon. You can try and put them on the roost when it's totally dark. They won't be able to jump down, and learn that's what the roosts are for.

Thanks - I'll wait another month and see what happens. Just glad to know they are not doing anything abnormal. (they seem perfectly happy!)
