Not using the roost to sleep

I have three 28 week old birds and they are crowded on 4 feet of perch. When i had 4 birds, prior to dog attack, the last one to get up to the roost had a bunch of trouble. The others didn't understand that they needed to move over for her,THEN they could spread out.

I have eight feet of roost pole for 11 chickens, and there is always three feet empty. Seven huddle together on the last three feet next to the south window, and the other four huddle together on the last two feet next to the north window. At least, that's the way I find them just after dark. The poop board indicates that they spread out some during the night, but I still think that there is no shortage of roosting space.

As to the rooster that flogs you, that's a different problem that I would want to solve if he were mine. I had a couple of pullets that wanted to roost on the poop board, but after I put them up on the pole about four nights in a row, they decided they liked it.

A poop board allows for less roost space as they can use it to shuffle around at roost time....and some of mine roost on the board itself under the others(how they don't get pooped on is beyond me, but I've never seen any).

I setup extra roost space and she still isn't using the roost. She isn't laying. Doesn't seem like there is much else I can do. I'm going to cook her. What is the big deal about the rooster. He only tries to attack me at night when I'm in the coop/run, never in daylight. I think he can't recognize me because birds can't see at night so he's just trying to defend his flock, which is his job.

Sorry I already gave her away. She went fast on Craigslist. Now I have 2 open spots. I'm interested in getting blue egg shell layers. Which breed lays the most blue eggs per year and has the largest body size?

How can I tell if it's a true Amerucana? How many eggs per year?

I have what I think is an EE and she doesn't lay a lot like my barred rock or Brahmas.
