Hey guys,

I have this hen that has started walking funny like in this photo! She seems to have not very good balance either. It started off as one leg but I feel it's now 2 legs. These guys free range for 12hrs a day so on a 5 and half acer farm so I don't see them very often so I'm not sure if this is a disease that will spread or if its an injury of some sort. The rest of my flock seems to be healthy and OK. If anyone has seen this before or experienced this and has information could they please let me know!

Thanks for the help guys.

What is your location, and what do you feed your chickens? Are they getting a balanced chicken feed? What is her age? Do her toes curl under or does she sit or walk on her hocks? Human vitamin B complex, which has all b vitamins including riboflavin, can be given orally 1/2 tablet daily popped into her beak or crushed into some moistened food daily. Do you know if she was vaccinated for Mareks disease.

We are in Brisbane, Queensland. I feed them a seed mix, the same thing I have feed them since they came of chick starter and the rest they forage from around the property. She will be a year in September. She sits and walks on her hocks, it's almost like she dosent have the strength to stand up on her legs and when she does she is very stumbly.

Do I just buy that in the vitamin isle at the supermarket? What is it about the vitamins that makes them so lame in the legs? She has not been vaccinated for Mareks. Would it be to late to get her vaccinated?

Thanks Eggcessive 👍🏼

Do they sell a balanced chicken where you live? They sell human vitamin B complex in stores or pharmacies where you buy vitamins. B complex has all b vitamins, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, etc. 1/2 tablet daily can be given in food or orally. How old is she? If the seed mix is not a complete feed, vitamin and mineral deficiency could be the problem. Mareks disease is seen worldwide, and that can cause lameness and paralysis. Riboflavin or B2 deficiency is a cause of curled toe paralysis, which can mimic Mareks. Mareks vaccines are best given just after hatch as a day old.

I would imagine so yes, I have just always brought what they have always eaten but I will look into something else. She will be a year in September, she has just started to lay eggs also. OK, I am.off to get some vitamins for her. Thank you so much for your help!
