Notes or just itchy growing feathers?

how do I know if my chick has mites or is just itchy from growing feathers? If it is mites what can I do to treat it and is it harmful to humans, I’ve been carrying her around all day!

Are you itchy? Poultry lice and mites may crawl on you be an irritant but they can't live on you.
Look through the feathers for signs of bugs - lice you will see moving around - look at the vent, under the wings, etc. Mites generally live off the bird and come out at night to feed. Where are you housing your chick and how old is she?

Photos of the chick? Growing feathers can be itchy to a chick, you will see them preen, possibly scratch too. Provide your chicks with a dust bathing area, that may help them get the sheaths off.

Unfortunately her brooder sister passed away. So Mallory is a lone chick!

My brooder has pine shavings for bedding. Whenever I add them I let it pile up, and they all dust-bathe joyfully.
