There's probably more than one raccoon so be vigilant. I'd start setting traps and keep eyes and ears open. Sorry you had to go through that

So sorry to hear about your birds :'( sometimes its hard to get a good shot at raccoons so if you can i would invest in some nice traps, my grandpa had to stay up 3 nights to shoot this HUGE coon that killed a good 30 chickens of his, and if you do shoot it, shoot it one more time just to make sure its dead, don't want a raccoon clawing your legs good luck!

I was sleeping and my daughter and friend were keeping watch ... by the time I realized what was going on in my sleepy stupor, he had gotten away. I don't honestly KNOW how he got in. There are still NO HOLES or anything in the fencing or netting!!!! Stupid dumb thing. But now that I know he comes around four AM, I can lay in wait for him. I will use live bait tonight and will be ready with loaded weapon in hand

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Your HUGE Raccoon is probably using the door....look for scratches where he pulls the door open to enter....Coons are very strong, and have agile paws...they can open just about anything.....I have had a coon pull off 2 40# bags of dirt on top of my 32 gallon trash can to get to the feed...another time lifed a 50# steel barbell weight off another can...now I use A board through the handle on lid with 3/8" threaded eye bolts on the handles, with the ends going through the board, then wing nuts...they bent the lid...Killing 1 coon won't be but a temporary fix, find the entrance way & correct the entry problem...Raccoons are territorial, when 1 is gone another will eventually show up....I'd be using a game camera that records when movement is detected by a motion sensor...Did you see that HUGE raccoon inside the coop?? or outside?? ...raccoons like to eat crunchy things like heads & necks, but the insides being pulled out through holes could also be a raccoon trait....same with pulling feathers & skin off.......don't waste another chickens life....use dry dog food & a bowl of water....I personally use a live trap & relocate vs. stay up all night, but I sure see your viewpoint here ... On another thread, a lady was having problems with coons....once she started throwing out extra food & scraps, the coon never bothered her chickens again, just was happy to eat something ....RR
