What on earth could it have been. I read the predator stuff but I can't believe it was the cats. They haven't been a problem at all.

MY 13 weeks old buttercup hen was a pile of feathers this morning. When I put all the others in last night she must have been out ranging.

Any ideas?

I did hear a really strange noise last night. Sounds like a cross between a bird and cat....

HMMMMM

RACOON! probably. It will be back, whatever it was.

So sorry for your loss.

A weasel took out half the flock a few weeks ago. So the coop is now tight as a drum. That butter cup flew over the fence EVERY day. My fault not tracking her down I suppose. Lesson learned.

Thanks everyone.

So, is the coop covered?

It sounds like a racoon or possum. I've heard that both like the guts. And the cat/bird sound, sounds like a racoon as well. My grandfather said her heard what sounded like birds fighting in the yard, looked out and saw a whole family of coons in the parking lot of his hotel.

THere are pictures of my coop on my BYC page. Its a fullyed secure. I'm sure the hen just stayed out that night and didn't get locked up. She was a really flighty bird and NEVER stayed in the run. THe run is open top.

I'll be setting traps for the coons though.

darn things.

To top things off, we lost a calf today too.

I guess this must have been a raccoon. FOund two of them outside tonight.

HA. their last night....

i suggest covering the top.... one way or another, sometime or another, something will get in.... better to be safe than sorry.
I don't know what i'd do if something got my birds.
