November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

I'd like to join please! I'm doing a test clutch in the incubator I just built and crossing g my fingers. I set 10 eggs on Oct. 19 which should give me a hatch date of November 8. Purchased eggs from a local farmers market and cracked a few to check for fertility. So far I have four little wigglers in there. Still early for a couple of brown eggs I can't see inside yet. Also have 10 quail eggs but not holding my breath on any of those being viable.

I would like to join in. I will be setting eggs on Friday. Paint silkies and isbars. All are shipped eggs. Will have final numbers on Thursday (depends on if I get extras sent or not. And of course how the post office handles them and packing). I am so excited!!

I'm using all shipped eggs as well. Oooooo paint silkies!! I'm working on my silkie flock and have 5 paint eggs so far. Hoping, hoping, hoping!

Good luck on your hatch! I'm still waiting for eggs in the mail too and I'm pretty sure the mail carrier is starting to feel a little stalked LOL I always look out the window to see if a box is going into my mailbox or if she's bringing one to my door

I did an early candle today when I got home as I was worried about my second batch not showing any signs of development yet. Fortunately I found dark spots and small veins in 11/12 of them this time. They seem to be a day behind on development, but I am happy with their progress so far. First batch is 7/9, second is 11/12. By this time with the old incubator the first dozen were already dead. Yay for progress!
Awesome! Sounds like you're off to a great start this time

My name is HugHess and I am a certifiable Hatch-a-holic...
I fell off the wagon again today when my 'Sponsor' , aka enabler, supplied me with these...

Why can't I ever find a 'Step' program!?! How many steps will I need to fulfill to achieve adequate recovery? Because what I am doing, obviously, is getting me nowhere (except Chick Heaven). I love my sponser and can't let her go!
HELP me, please!

I'm a fellow hatch-a-holic so congrats on your eggs!!!! What kind are they? Well they say that the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. Looks like you've achieved a step already

Oh lawd! I can't wait until I can show off my egg pics in a few days! I hope you are ready for photo craziness!

Like has been previously stated... Bring It On!! LOL I haven't posted any of my pics yet. I figured I would wait until they all arrive but I love looking at everyone elses while I wait

Hey everyone! I just set a batch of 21 eggs, 8 EE x Gold sexlink, one EE x EE, 4 or 5 EE x Polish, and 7 or 8 EE x Andalusian! Expecting them to hatch around November 9th

Good luck with your hatch!

Good luck! What kind of incubator did you build? I built a Styrofoam cooler incubator, working on an aquarium incubator for fun, but I really want to make one of those nice big cabinet style ones with all the bells and whistles.

Oh and I ran across some duck eggs that I couldn't talk myself out of. They should arrive in a few days. So I now have a staggered hatch with quail, chickens, and ducks. It's a good thing my husband, aka my enabler, is so understanding and supportive.

Using an Omaha Steaks cooler with a fan I pulled out of an old computer, purchased thermostat and two windows! A big step up from my first still air that I built last year LOL. My husband isn't sure he likes my new addiction but his ears perked up when I told him about the chicks I sold this summer. Im hoping for a much better hatch rate than with my old one. So far so good as I'm pretty sure a few of these eggs were infertile and I had a temp spike of 106 before I got the thermostat hooked up. I saw the wigglers this morning!

I like it!! Looks much nicer than the one I made last time. So far does the temp/humidity hold fairly steady? I didn't use a fan and I'm curious how big of a difference they make. I had to keep an eye on mine constantly.

That didn't take long!! Love it!!

Well you see... I have an old playhouse that would make a perfect duck house, a big fenced backyard to roam around, a nice corner of the yard that I'm not using that would make a great place to put the duck house and the extra kiddie pool I have during warmer weather, 5 kids that like to spoil all our animals ROTTEN, and tons of bugs to eat most of the year. All this and no ducks! Problem solved

The temp holds great! I have to add water more often, I'll incorporate a tube system so I dont have to lift the lid during lockdown. At least I can use a bowl in this one, the still air had a raised grate and I had to add water to the whole bottom to get my humidity up. Plus much more room than the old one and I used a sealer instead of duct tape so looks nicer.

Ok, couldn't help myself. I've never been able to see anything this early before. Remember, all these eggs were refrigerated when I bought them so this is experiment #2 for me with this hatch.
