OH NO!!!I got another of my egg shipments today. The postal worker slipped on her way to my door and I'm pretty sure it cracked one of the eggs. The paper towel it was wrapped in was wet from the egg leaking. So since I was going to have to toss it anyway I cracked it to check for fertility. Definite bullseye. There were also some very small red bloodlike dots on the yolk and one in the white. Is that normal? I will put a pic of it up in a min. Have to use my phone and my phone app isn't letting me actually write posts. Just post pictures.
Anyway, another eggs had about half of a side cracked but didn't break the membrane so I put fingernail polish over it to see if I can get it to hatch anyway. That one has dirt in the cracks so I'm guessing it was packaged already cracked. So I will be setting 6 more silkie eggs tomorrow.
I'm searching for a spare as we speak. I have space for the BOUGHT eggs... but I think at least TWO of my shippers are sending extras.. I hate for them to go to waste!I'd invest in another bator personally
Okay. thank you.Sustained, those are blood spots and normal. No worries.
Yup. It was a bargain price batch so I'm hoping my very expensive batch that's still coming has better luck!OH NO!!!
that is awesome! Good job.Because I don't have any egg pics to share yet, I thought I'd show y'all what we were working on yesterday ( my day off). Building a coop. This is the built-in brooder/solitary confinement pen inside. We had 18 -5 week old chicks in 3 huge dog crates in our bathroom until last night. Really glad to get them out of there.. but really sad too. I kinda enjoyed talking to them as I was getting ready in the am... just didn't like the dust and the smell!! I got up twice last night to go check on them. Is cool here (low 50's) but they are feathered and had two Brinsea heaters in there with them last night. I think they enjoy the extra space! (This one is 3 feet wide by 8 feet long) In other news.. got tracking numbers on my eggs! They are coming from Oregon, New York and Georgia to me here in Mississippi. This ought to be interesting! ae![]()

No. Just a seller I found through a Serama Facebook group. I was *thinking* about bidding on some young adult Seramas from PixieChick and decided against it. Then I saw some beautiful choclate seramas on the FB group for sale.. (old ad though) and when I contacted her she said she could/would ship eggs. So thats how I ended up with the dozen I have coming.
I am not sure what to expect out of this hatch. My FIRST hatch.... So many different breeds (I have Blue/Black Copper Marans, olive eggers, isbars, MAYBE some blue americauna, BBS Jersey Giants and the seramas. Needless to say I am expecting a full bator withOUT any extras they may send... trying to decide what to do about those!
Run to TSC for another bator? Try to fit them all in?
Shipped eggs really need to be incubated upright... unless they miraculously arrive with perfect air cells... that makes it harder to squeeze extras in. I don't turn shipped eggs for 3 to 5 days to let them get a good start. For all your eggs, you may need another incubator. I have 2 and shuffle eggs around, mostly using the second as a hatcher... it is pretty nice!
Chocolate Seramas...![]()
From what I hear and see... color mostly comes from the rooster so if it is a chocolate rooster(s) then your chances are good!Yeah.. Chocolate Seramas.. only thing is eggs come from multiple hens so they may not all be chocolate. We shall see!
So I *may* have someone that can loan me a still air... I have NO experience with these. I have been playing with my Brinsea for the past few weeks (with old eggs) so I know the quirks.... I should have planned for extras ***stupid stupid stupid***
