Novice: What to use on the floor in the chicken coop

Hi, we have got some 3 week old chicks and have started to think about putting them outside in the next few weeks. The problem is, I can't find a definitive answer as to what I should be putting on the ground. We will be paving underneath and I was thinking of putting woodchips down over the top. Is this right? Many thanks.

Woodchips are fine. "Pine" do not use cedar!!!
I am a big fan of Sand. Easy clean up and other health benefits.
