Since it is spring now, you may want to try a portable foldable dog pen. You can use it indoors or out. Here's the kind I use:

Thank you for the suggestion, but I'm not willing to spend almost as much as the cost of the birds for something to keep them in for only about 5 weeks. If hopping out becomes a problem I have some leftover plastic netting that I can wrap around the wading pool.

What kind of ducks!!??
I love ducks but no way are 12 ducklings going to make it in a container that small. Hint they grow fast....

These guys are only three weeks old and I've got them in a double dog kennel.
I always use pine shavings with newspaper lining the bottom...But puppy pads may be better...I've never used a heat lamp but usually use a 100watt bulb...then down size it after a week or so...heat lamp is good though just saying that if the temp isn't exactly perfect you should be okay...
