Now I Am Mad !!!!!!

after the dog our next line of defense is sending the hubby down there after a beer or two... seriously it totally works.

make sure the dog and hubby maintain a perimeter - that is, walk the same property line over and over again. and hee hee hee yep watch that electric fence

;-)

do you have a line on building a shelter? in about half a day we hillbillied together a great 'turkey hut' using pallets on 3 sides and a hog panel covered in wire mesh + a tarp for a hoop style cover. then used cupboard doors for the front. it not pretty but our cost of goods was basically materials on hand. we know it works as it protected them from a raccoon attack. we have our tom and one BR hen in their right now until we can integrate our other hen + her babies. if you are in a pinch just look around and see what you have and get creative. remember also that Home Depot sometimes has a 'bargain lumber bin' - tons of stuff for $0.51 each. all about 4ft - which is perfect for a small shelter.

sorry again about your loss, i know its wildly frustrating. keep your chin up!

I bought 2 turkeys a while back as a present for my husband who was "turkey crazy" since seeing some at a friend's house.
I figured we could turn them in with our chickens when they got big enough... I was WRONG!
The turkeys are such sweet gentle creatures... My 4 cinnamon queens (my meanest hens of a flock of about 40 in that pen) took after them and scared them & me enough not to try to add them to that flock ever again.
So my husband and I looked around our ever growing population of animals and ever shrinking property... where were we going to put them???
---Ah look---
Mr.Goat is all alone and needs company! We modified the goat pen, equipped it with a top and ala-kazam it's a goat & turkey pen!
I think the smell of stinky ol' Mr.Goat keeps everything ( and everyone else for that matter) away just fine and he's happy with the company too.

Good luck with your next move... whatever that might be.

P.S. My husband and son pee around my chicken coop & run almost daily, seems to work so far.

Gamo air gun is a good one. I have one and it works good on racoons.

You could put a snare in the hole in the fence and catch/kill them that way. Check with your state hunting and trapping laws.

Put a baby monitor in the coop to alarm you when there is trouble and then come out guns a blazin!

So I checked with animal control.

Foxes are considered a nuisance animal. They can be killed at any time HOWEVER I can not trap them.

I am going to look at a compound bow tonight. DH picked one up today, too. So we will both be wielding WMDs.

Everyone keeps asking me what I will do with them once I killed it. "Skin it and string it up on the chicken coop as a warning to ALL other foxes, what else?"

So this morning I set my alarm for 4am. Alarm went off and no more than a second later the foxes were barking in the street. I looked outside and there that son of a wee bee was right next to the front step. WHAT???? Brave fox....... They are not afraid of anything here. Dogs, peeing, everything I have tried has failed to keep them at bay. Tonight is fox hunting night. WHOO HOOO!!!

I'll keep everyone posted. I'll include pics if we get anything.

fire it up baby!

i keep telling my hubby that the next raccoon we get will have its head mounted on a pike in the middle of our hen yard for all the others to see....

good luck!

Honestly I can't wait. It must be the redhead in me.

DH said that if I don't get the bow tonight not to worry. He still has his and I can still skin it myself if I want. I hear you can blow the skin off with an air compressor. You know like a ballon. Sounds fun to me.

I hope I don't offend anyone.

Sorry about your turkeys. About two months ago we had foxes get Meyer and Spot. Scared the heck out the last three. They didn't want to sleep in the coop after that.
Bow and arrow.

If you can get your hands on a crossbow they are a lot more accurate if you don't have a lot of compound bow experience.
