Now that chicks are out, what do to for humidity?

Now that my gorgeous silkies are in various states of finding their legs and running around the incubator, should I keep the humidity up high, or let it drop off back to around 50% to help them dry?

Also, just keep them in there until they are totally dry - in otherwords when to move them to brooder?

Just giving a bump... these guys are in there cheeping like crazy. They want OUT!

I wouldn't worry about humidity now, I never keep my humidity up when they are all out...if they are all out of their shells they will be fine...I always take the ones that have dried out into the brooder and keep the others in til they dry....

Thanks for the info - I figured the humidity was mainly for the actual hatching process. I'm know these guys want to get dry and OUT as soon as possible - they are bumping all around in there!

I've got the new brooder setup and ready to go. I made this one out of a large rubbermaid storage container (the largest Lowe's had). I cut holes, then used small bolts and fender washers to secure the hardware cloth on the top and side.

Tuffoldhen is the one I have the question for, I have Buff Orfs and they are laying eggs like crazy.

We have had lows in the mid - 20's and they kept right on laying, I was wondering if they will continue to lay thru the winter?


I have read/heared they do. But, I will take the word of a real person that have raised them.

Arlee...Your brooder set up is very nice..... Buc....I just saw this sorry...My pullets that I have of buff orps laid all winter last year...as they get older that will slow down some...I have some 4 years olds now that give me an egg once in awhile ...
