Since my birds started laying back in late July, the number of eggs has rapidly increased! I sometimes end up with 5 to 6 eggs per day, and this from only 8 chickens! Is this normal? Or am I getting an excessive amount? I now have only 1 rooster, having doled out the other 2 trouble makers to friends. The rooster I kept is a good guy, never picks on his flock, and always lets them eat the treats before I actually have to ensure him he's allowed to have some goodies too.
The only 2 chickens not laying yet, are the SLWs, as they are 2 to 4 weeks younger than the rest of the hens. So, really, I'm only getting eggs from 6 chickens! The size of the eggs are also increasing. I got a nice jumbo sized today!
I am so thrilled with the performance of my birds! And amazed at the flavor of the eggs! My neighbors, likewise, seem to be pleased, as I have given them some. If my birds keep laying the this way, they better be prepared to recieve alot more!
My mom in law is now talking about selling eggs, because, with this sad economy, our financial state isn't in the best of health. But, I worry because the city in which we live, is having issues with urban gardens, etc... Seems they want to take this issue to another vote, and regulate, in some way, how we will be allowed to sell whatever we produce, from our backyards. Permits, from what I hear, to sell your produce, don't run cheap. I'll have to delve deeper into this, and see what I can find out. Anybody else with similar circumstances? I don't want all these eggs to go to waste! Yet, I don't want to feed the world for free. Feed costs money!
