Now the babys are even getting bold (WARNING,GRAPHIC Content)

That was funny!!! Yep have critters on our wall (not by my decorating taste mind you) but if it is edible you better believe we are gonna eat it. I am sorry but ummm I just can't eat an overgrown rat nope just not gonna happen. And we too have saved the turtle lol (4 kids ) and we also have rescued baby possums and bottle fed them for LEARNING experience which we let go at grandmas very far away who has no chickens. I am with you here though they will come again and they will be disposed of quickly. I can see where people could debate on this for DAYS!!! I hope I am not out of line with the rules just sharing opinion and experiences here.. Meaning no offense to anyone!!!!

I dont like killing anything. I hate doing it .

I love animals.. Heck at one point I thought these where cute as can be.

But enough is enough. Its not a thing I enjoy or like doing.

He was youn gand I am sure there will be more of his family.

But.. but.. I did rescue a wayward boxturtle from certain death off the road a few days ago.
And I even picked up a snake baby I thought needed help across my driveway. Was a teeeny ringneck.. but it was allready dead.

Ahhhhh...another softie like me... I wish I had a dollar for every box turtle (we called them terrapins) mom would let us kids "rescue" on the way out our country road...lol And till this day (30 some years later) I'll still stop (and sometimes even turn around and go back if I bypassed one) to get a darned turtle out of the road

My husband just looks at me and says "Are you serious?" But we stop. You should have seen me the day I had him let me out for a huge snapper this past summer (yes...I even felt sorry for that ugly, mean looking thing). The only thing I could find in the car for a "tool" was a roll of weed block. The darned turtle was so heavy that I couldn't budge it...and it kept turning and snapping the roll. Then I found a branch on the side of the road and was trying to get him to bite it so I could drag him out of the road. He just wouldn't cooperate. Thankfully, while this was going on, only a few people drove past to see my stupid attempts...

Don't you dare go feeling guilty for defending your critters!!! Now I've never thought possums were cute, but I believe in "live and let live." Possums, raccoons, hawks...they're all just doing what they do...finding a food source.

However, everyone should have the right to defend their own. For goodness sake, it's not like you tortured the fella, or got your jollies by killing something...you were protecting your own!! That's just the way it works, like it or not... Most folks don't like having to do it, but sometimes it has to be done.

So far we have caught (and killed) two possums in the last week. So far the possums and/or other vermin killed nine of my chickens the week before. I'd say we're still behind by seven! I would be happy to leave them alone if they would go eat somewhere else! The armadillo we had in the trap this morning we let go. The snake I caught last week eating three of my eggs we let go. We even stopped this afternoon and helped a gopher turtle cross the road. I don't like killing, either, but sometimes it is necessary. It is not legal to relocate possums where we live.

If you want to keep your birds, your DH did the right thing. Hope you fixed him breakfast in bed.

Some tree huggers want to relocate thier predator to someones else. Not only is this against the law in most states, it is against all of us that raise livestock for a living.

Any predator animal or human that wants to mess with my critters, will find that I have installed many deterants. In the case of an animal getting around these deterants, they will meet thier maker. A human will find him or herself in jail or the hospital. I could care less which they choose.

If I find anyone relocating a predator, it will not get 100 yards from the drop off spot. The person doing the drop off will get a piece of my mind and them some if they act funny.

I have cleaned this thread of inapproriate posts and gloating.
It is never pleasant to kill a predator, but if it needs to be done, it needs to be done.

Carry on.
