"Worcester officials congratulated 32 recruits who completed the police academy on Wednesday, then promptly laid all of them off to help close a budget gap of roughly $23 million."

Two of the recruits were siblings. They expected to start work on Monday.

I'm thinkin' they could have said something *before* the graduation ceremony.

dont know where they are, but we live in a steel town and near a Cheverolet plant. Big layoffs, high crime shootings and robberies on a wekly basis. Heck this week they robbed Goodwill of all places.

Wonder how much the city officials make compared to what they pay the fire/police department?

there are other ways to trim budgets without sacrificing safety
