Now what do I do?

Well....after trying to rid myself of this dog....and it preying on my new turkeys( they are safe by the way) ......I decided a bb to the behind was my only option. That dog can RUN!!

I dont think it will be back...At least I hope not. I let the big girls out, with Ruby Red ( my rooster ) Everyone is happy now. As small as that dog is, and as long as Ruby's spurs are...the dog would lose...hands down. I think my Roo outweighs that little dog too! I have been watching...no dog. I think it got the hint.

when i found out my uncles dog waz the one that waz killing my chickens i shot him in the butt with a bb and i have not seen him in 3 months. YEA

I'm thinking I need to invest in a BB gun!

Everyone around here has giant dogs...well except the jerks next door that have mops that are supposed to be dogs. I usually spray them with a hose, seems to work okay, but it doesn't have a very far range...

The bb worked for my neighbors dogs as well. Especially if they dont see it coming. I havent seen them here since. Only got one and the other never came back either.

Maybe little dog found its way home. I bet it wont be back.

Again I find myself standing up for the 'other side'. A year or so ago a farmer found a large dog messing with his livestock. Thankfully he called animal control and they did come get the dog.

A couple of days later it came on the news that a family on vacation had a terrible car accident and their dog was thrown out of their car and ran away. It was the same dog!!

The owners were so thankful to have their loved family dog back (the father was killed in the car accident) - it was no ones fault and we were all glad the farmer didn't just shoot the dog.

Very few people allow their little dogs to run at large ... some little child is likely in tears over his/her lost wiener dog. I'm praying the dog was able to get home.

I'm an adovate for paintball guns.... very effective (they hurt when you get hit) at sending animals on their way (we watched a very large raccoon high-tail it to the hills with my son running behind shooting) but they don't cause serious damage to the animal.

If that little dog does show up again I would highly suggest you try and take him to whatever town near you has a vet or dog pound and leave it with them.

Sorry to say that doesn't hold very true....perhaps very few folks purposely allow dogs to run at large...but check this predator section long enough and I think you'll begin to change your mind. Even so...it takes ONE dog to kill your flock.

I do whole heartedly agree with:

I also like them because then the owner KNOWS their dog got out. If a neighbor comes by then you can say it was chasin your chickens and the paint was a warning! I've heard of so many people saying their dogs don't leave their yard or they wouldn't chase your chickens.....a splat of paint PROVES they were in your yard!

Good luck with your dog problem. I hope your chickens stay out of harms way.

Another thought... our local newspaper...(also in a small SE Indiana farm town) will post lost and found classified ads in the paper for free! A good way to reach a lot of people, also the first place I'd look if I'd lost a pet.

I totally agree......... what a great idea about the paintball gun..........I am going to get one........my one dog takes off every now and then..........would hate to think of someone shooting her..............I try so hard to keep her here.so when a strange dog comes...............I do whatever I can to find the owner.so many just dump dogs out where I live..........I would have to open a shelter if I was to "help" them all..............

Dont underestimate that dog, the two breeds you say it looks like were bred to kill small animals, thats their job.
Other dogs may kill accidentally because of their size, terriers and weeiner dogs are Pest Control.

Just my 2 cents.

The good news is, I havent seen this dog since the BB. We live just about a quarter mile from the shelter. People just drop dogs off there, not always in the pens provided. It so sad, because the shelter is right on the highway...and sadly several of these dogs get hit. All I can do is watch out for whats mine and try my best to keep them safe.
