UPDATE: When I went to put the chicks in the coop for the night, I was able to see Raptor, my sick girl poo and now in addition to the diarrhea, it has some pretty bright yellow in it. Here’s my post from earlier. I’ll go back and delete that one. Any advice, suggestions? I’ve been searching here and online but I can’t find anything that makes sense for all her symptoms given the situation. Thank you!!!

One of my 8 week old PBR girls ate a string about a week ago. It was hanging from her vent. I cut what I could and even did a vaseline gloved finger to help her push the rest out. I thought we were good. Then she did it again! Same process. I started ACV with all the big girls and then added Probiotic and electrolyte add-ins as well-in their water. Within about 24 hours she was eating and drinking again and only had one morning that she vomited clear liquid when I examined her crop. Her poo is loose and has more white in it than normal. Her crop is enlarged still and she’s just obviously not herself. She’s still drinking, eating, and even grazing outside but she kinda stays to herself mostly and her crop looks more enlarged this evening and it feels firmer. Help!!

Do you offer grit?
You have mixed age chicks from different places housed together correct?
Have you heard of coccidiosis?
I ask because this, coccidiosis, can cause crop issues.

What the heck do you mean this happened again?
Where is the dummy getting strings from?

There's lots of advice on here if you search for impacted crop, and I understand that she ate string, so it's bad, but if I were you that's where I would start. We've only had one case in a chicken and it did not go well, but maybe if you search on here you'll find some more ideas. I would suggest that you put her in a hospital pen til she's better, because she can have some privacy that way. She should still be able to be where she can hear and see her friends. Maybe mixing a little olive oil in with her food, if she's eating crumbles...and trying to massage the crop to help it get moving. I once had a peahen with a partially impacted crop and she was so wild i couldn't do much, but I did mix extra poultry grit in soft food for her, and surprisingly she ate it and it did fix the problem eventually. But hers was not very bad, she didn't eat string. It really doesn't sound very good...I don't know if you have a vet you could take her to, but if so, all the better. Are you sure it was string...and then did she eat string a second time?

I do offer them grit. Just introduced it this week.

The big girls are all together and they’re the same age. The fakers are in the brooder and don’t mix yet.

I think I didn’t catch all that she ate the first round and she ate it out of her poo. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ It was the exact same type of string and I can’t find the source anywhere.

Are all of the big girls from the same place?
Where they all purchase from the same place?

We have an extra large dog kennel that we used last month sometimes with them. I could put that out back and put her in it so that she could rest, eat & drink without being bothered while the rest are out during the day. Would that work? They’re not picking on her at all.
I’m positive it was string. I had to cut the hanging part twice. 🤦🏻‍♀️
I will try the olive oil and resting tomorrow. We do have a local vet that will even come out. I was going to pay for a meet and great anyway. I guess now might be the time if she doesn’t peek up soon. I’ll read up on the impacted crop and massaging, etc. Thank you for some great info!
