Hello,

I just received my NPIP certification number and was going down the list for each state’s importation rules.

I had my flock tested for Pullorium-Typhoid but not AI (since it seemed unnecessary)…

so my understanding is that I cannot ship to:

New York
Florida
Virginia
West Virginia
Alabama

Did I read that correctly? I just want to be clear so that I don’t have people ordering hatching eggs that aren’t allowed to receive them.

Thank you!

Oops, and Georgia?

The Florida rule is here:
https://flrules.org/gateway/RuleNo.asp?title=IMPORTATION OF ANIMAL S&ID=5C-3.012

Not being a lawyer, even though I'm a Florida NPIP participant, I'm not going to attempt to parse that for you. That said, I have had remarkably good experience w/ the Fl Dept of Ag in this regard. They have been, frankly, the most knowledgeable and largely efficient Gov't agency I have ever dealt with.

and given the state of things right now, I'd recommend adding AI testing to your next NPIP certification - even if its not required, your buyers are going to want to know. (though it appears - again, NOT a lawyer) that AI testing w/i days of shipment will be required if your birds are in an AI affected area. I'm not sure how FL is currently defining "AI affected".

I can add on that certification, but that’ll be another test day. I may do that when they have availability for further testing. Going in I didn’t realize that I needed that for shipping and really just didn’t want to harass my birds. The tester was great and said that it’s not required, but it is helpful. She also said that bird flu is pretty obvious if a flock contracts it… so it seemed unnecessary but you’re right, it’s probably good to have it done anyway.
