NPIP- is anyone here certified???

A few more thoughts... Most, if not all states require flock testing anytime birds are brought into the state from a neighboring state, anytime a bird is exhibited, or anytime birds or hatching eggs are sold. The states provide this service at minimum or no cost. They could just as easily require it and then tell you that you have to have a certified lab or veterinary clinic do it costing you big $$$...

I've heard more than one instance of ag inpectors misinterpreting the regulations or making up their own rules. If it becomes an issue don't take their word for it. Demand that they show you the regulation. I've never heard of any reulation that says a flock needs to be confined unless it tests negative. Who defines "free frange"? If they say they can't be free ranged, does keeping them in a pen count? What if it's a 20 acre pen?

He is correct that you can't sell chickens or eggs until the flock is tested, but I don't think that refers to eggs for consumption, only eggs for hatching. I could be wrong though...

Even if a flock tests positive they are not required to be destroyed. The flock is quarantined, which means that any birds or hatching eggs from the flock cannot leave the premises. You can add birds to your flock and keep that flock as long as you want. To remove the the quarantine the flock has to be destroyed, everything disinfected, and there is a mandatory period of time before restocking. Once the new flock tests clean the quarantine is lifted.

The guys story changed yesterday...I think he forgot what he told me the day before.

I think he added the penned until tested part. He is now saying he has to get his birds tested.

Now that one I believe!!!

The eggs are tricky. The chickens have to be tested to sell hatching eggs in Texas.
Eating eggs are only to be sold under USDA rules, but if you just sell eggs and don't advertise for eating, you can sell without USDA standards, tests, and fees.

Now I have to look up more stuff for the local small animal auction, the TAHC guy was there tonight and had some new rules that I have never heard of about ducks, geese, & turkeys, so back to researching....Like was said, they don't know all the rules & answers to questions either, so they wing it.
