I've read things here and there about NPIP. Can someone explain what it is? I understand it's some kind of testing, but is it for breeders or hatcheries? I have 2 buffs and a SLW roo and 9 eggs in the bator. Is this something I need for my small flock? Thanks and sorry I asked so many questions.

It's a program run by the USDA and really is geared toward the food supply staying safe, tests for Pullorum and Typhoid. Anyone can have their flocks tested for NPIP, however, it doesnt normally test for the most common diseases, like Mycoplasma, unless you pay extra. No, you don't need it, but if you sell hatching eggs and chicks later on, you may want it, especially if you ship into other states. It doesn't guarantee that your flock is healthy, a common misconception. Check out the Dept of Agriculture in your state and you should see info on NPIP.
