Number of roosters in flock.

It comes down to the particular birds. Roosters are crap shoot. Multiple roosters and the odds get worse, however, sometimes it does work.

The question is, can you cull birds if it doesn't work? If not, pass on the rooster, if not a problem then try it out.

Multiple roosters IMO

• worse luck
  • adding totally strange roosters to each other -otherwise known as cock fighting
  • brothers being raised together with no older birds
• some luck
  • father /son
  • older established flock with a flock master rooster, and younger cockerels being raised up in it
• guaranteed perfect - as in wishing they will just be nice
  • does not happen

Note: the smaller the space, that also decreases your odds

I ended up not taking the rooster. I had 3 two of which I raised as babies out of those one got attacked by a fox, survived but was not himself and grew frustrated because it became difficult for him to mount the hens so we just took him out of his misery since he was also starting to get aggressive towards the hens. Currently I only have two roosters and Currently 16 hens and I almost wish I only had one because some hens are worn out. We finally had a broody hen with two successful hatchling and while they are still super young I'm almost 100% sure one of the two is a rooster. Hoping that I am wrong but if I'm correct that one rooster would become our little training for processing our first bird for eating.
