There are so many of us on here. Let's talk about our jobs!!

I am an LVN on the surgical floor at a tiny community hospital. I love the work, hate the job. Our medical and surgical floor got combined while they are remodeling and turning all our double rooms into single rooms with wood floors and flat screen TVs. Things have been very strained to say the least. But I love taking care of the patients.

And I do homecare on the side. So I get to see alot of my patients that I have taken care of on the surgical floor after they go home and see them in their home setting. I love that.

I am also in an LVN to BSN program through Universtiy of Phoenix. I just started so I still have 3 years

to go. Now that health care has passed I am a little apprehensive about what will happen, but by the time I graduate it should all be sorted out..

So tell me about what you do!!

Any crazy stories??

What do you like/not like about it???

i am an rn of 23 years, home care, hospice, afc background. i love messing with the pts at the hosp where i work now. i work on the med surg floor, all the gastrointestinal surgeries, stroke, vascular surgeries. i was in one of my patients rooms when i heard a little old lady coming down the hall, a person i'd never seen before. she was surrounded by a whole gaggle of family and she was complaining loudly and bitterly about everything, ending up with "i haven't had anything to eat or drink in a week, this couldn't possibly get worse." i looked out at this little old lady, about 4'11" tall, pushing two iv poles, had a tube up her nose, a tube draining her bladder, with a heavy heart moniter hanging on her gown, a morphine pump and 2 surgical drains. i poked my head out and said with a smile "i can make it worse!" that stopped her right in her tracks and she gave me the stink-eye. her family was stunned into silence. i smiled dreamily and said "wouldn't a glass of lemonade taste good right now? the perfect glass, ice cold, not to tart, not too sweet? wouldn't that be great?" she was almost growling as she stalked over to me demanding my name. i answered "oh, i'm jenna!" and breezed back into my patients room. that was funny. bonnie

Okay.. that is really funny.... we have a real joker on our floor and he put a "fart" machine up on a top shelf and everytime someone walked by he let it rip. Some people were totally offended and some were rolling on the floor laughing... It was pretty funny. Especially when the CEO came around the corner.. fortunately he was one of the laughing ones...

I am an RPN in the USA I think you call them LPN..

I started in long term care but now i do home care (but that may change..lol) i love working with the families and the patients but I hate the politics. Last week I was a patients house and she was out of milk and bread... she clearly had the money just no ride to the store (this woman has 3 types of cancer) I had a call just up the road from her and then i was done for the day and because of regulations i could not even offer to grab it for her..

In home care I work with all age groups and health issues I like the randomness of the job but my schedule changes hourly.. like today i thought i was done at 2 but i got a call at 130 asking me to take on 2 more clients because the afternoon girl called in sick.. well i have appointments set up and it makes it hard.

I'm an RN, I worked a year in ICU, loved the patients, loved the work, the administration.... well, I went and found a new job because of the Charge nurse was given total dictatorial range. After screaming at me in front of everyone (for a mistake she made) I put in my notice, and informed them I will never be yelled at, period. Maybe I should have stuck it out, but I hated going there sooooo much so

I took an admin position with the Dept of Juvenile Justice. I now coordinate care for all the bad boys and girls for 2 counties and I love it. They respect me, support my decisions, I work with great people, my hours are flexible and wow, they actually pay me decently.

I also do QA for a pharm research company, work one shift a month in an urgent care and I just put my name in to do some homecare.

Nursing has its days but the opportunities are so plentiful, I wouldn't change careers unless I could actually be a farmer

I'm an RN of 12 years. I've worked everything from Med/Surg to Psych, infact I did psych for 10 years total inbetween working other units. When the patients weren't telling me they were married to Tom Brokaw, they were usually conversing with "unseen others" or pretending to be plants. (Had one tell me she was a fern) unfortunately admin was useless and kept us underpaid and understaffed in a dangerous lock-down setting so I quit... I now do respiratory in home for a company called Lincare and it is the BEST THING that has ever happened to me work wise. I honestly LOVE my job, my co-workers rock, and m-f 8-4:30 weekends and holidays off with no mandates? What nurse gets that??? looooove my job

I am a Lvn for a juvenile correctional facility. Today was only my second day but it seems great so far!

I was a clinical research nurse for a diabetic research facility for two years but the politics at that place was HORRIBLE!
