I have a doe with a uterine infection. She kidded 3 weeks ago. My vet has prescribed tetracycline injections. Is it safe for her 2 bucklings to nurse while she is on them? If not, how long should I wait? Also, I cannot find info on the withdrawal period for injected tetracycline, only for topical. Does anyone know the withdrawal period for human consumption and, if necessary, for the bucklings? I don't like giving antibiotics at all, but my vet is concerned that this infection has been going on for this long.

Ask the vet that prescribed the medication..
I have spoken with the vet. We try to avoid antibiotics if possible (obviously not in this case), and our vet, although we think she’s great, does not have any issue giving them liberally. This is obviously a different view point than we have, so I was looking for a point of view from a more holistic/natural/organic perspective.

I'm thinking I'd just follow the vets advice.

You may not like giving antibiotics but sometimes they are necessary. If untreated the uterine infection will render the doe sterile. It is perfectly safe for the kids to nurse while she is undergoing treatment. The withdrawal period for antibiotics for milk as I remember is in the one week to ten day range. If you want to be sure, take a milk sample and have it tested for antibiotic residue. This is a very quick test.
