Nutrena products

I feed both the starter and layer to my flock. The chicks do well on the starter and the older ones seam to like the layer pellet well enough to keep coming in at night for it.

Mine free range and I put a scoop in the coop to call them in with.

I have feed lakeland's layer and they were not that thrilled with it. So I switched back to the Nutrena.

My horses are also on Nutrena's Safechoice and eat it well and keep their weight where I want it.

I use Nutrena. It's either that or the TSC brand Dumor. Once I bought a small bag of TSC Dumor layer feed and the chickens ate it but with less vigor. I think it was because all they have ever ate was the Nutrena. My birds also free range.

Found this old thread but the topic still applies. Just yesterday I was discussing Nutrena feed with my feed store folks. They offer quite a few seminar sessions at the store on chicken keeping and have never sent me in a bad direction. I have been considering the switch to an organice certified feed but have been feeding Nutrena layer pellet for the past year. Hens like it so preference was not my issue. I have two small flocks... the Brabanter Roo w/4 hens and my mutt group of Jersey giant roo and assorted heritage breeds. Free ranging all day around the farm and only in the hen house/coops at night. The organic would be twice the cost (not unexpected) but they diid want to point out that the Nutrena label was noted as "natural" no hormones etc. So, for now I am staying with it. For my horses I like the All Breed (cow, sheep, goat, horse) grain as my sweet feed to go with pasture and grass. I also added their cracked corn for the chicken as treat feed. All are happy and wintered very well with maintaining good weight through our coldest months.

I LOVE nutrena! Our feed store was out last week and I was desperate so I ended up with flock raiser and it's going fine, but I will definently be buying nutrena as soon as they get it back in stock.

I really have not noticed any discernible difference in my birds between Purina and Nutrena. My birds seem to like both and look the same (and lay the same) on both. I can get Nutrena cheaper here than Purina though. At my feed store, Nutrena is $12.99 and Purina is $15.99.

Nutrena's horse feeds are far superior to Purina IMO, but I have not fed their chicken feeds.

I have fed Purina and Dumor though, and they seem to do just as well on the Dumor as on the Purina. The cost is quite a bit less too.

Nutrena is my favorite!! We have 6 partridge rocks and they started on the Nutrena chick starter and now they are on the layer pellets. They were born on June 10, 2009, and we got our first egg Thanksgiving Day 2009. And they haven't slacked up any on egg laying so far. My in-laws own a feed store and they have been a Nutrena dealer for 23 years, maybe that's why I am partial to Nutrena

they tried switching to a different brand but they were losing a lot of customers, so within a month they switched back to Nutrena. All of our customers swear by Nutrena and it is not expensive. Here in Mississippi, the cost of a 50# chick starter is only $10.40 and the layer pellets are $9.90 for 50#.

so I ended up with flock raiser

Doesnt Nutrena make the Flock Raiser?
It's just a higher protien blend with a little less calcium
I get more eggs feeding Flock Raiser instead of Layer Pelltes
