Nutrina - Nature Wise from TSC

Hi, we just started feeding out flock Nutrina Nature Wise layer feed (is "as close as you can get" organic). Anyway I am wondering if anyone else feeds this to their flock?

I feed the crumbles and thought I might mix their old feed (local family owned feed store brand) with the Nutrina brand. This is a 50# bag that is almost $20 and they seem to be going through it quicker than the 25# bags of the feed store brand. Will it hurt to mix them???? Or should I just mix in cracked corn and bird seed ever so often?

We can't free range, but try to give them greens (grasses and veggies) and fruit as often as I can.

Nutrena is a typical conventional vegetarian feed. AN Ok feed, but not organic in the least. The "Natural" label has no legal meaning whatsoever.

I know that the "Natural" label doesn't have a real meaning, and I was told by TSC employee that is "close to organic without certification" but the stuff I was buying doesn't seem to have the same about of nutrition.

Is there an organic out there that is worth the price?

Probably not to most, as all organic feeds I have found are double the price. The lowest price I can get is also mash & it doesn't work for me right now. I presently use a organic no soy pellet that is $31.25/50 lbs. & that is much better than $36.99 for Nature's Best in the feed store. My feed lasts about 3 weeks for 15 chickens & I found other stuff like Purina & others lasted about 2 weeks, so it isn't as expensive as it looks. It comes down to what you want & what you can afford. I do use conventional at times & then I start getting crazy over GMO & such & I go back to organic, but that's just me. I want to vote with my dollar, but sometimes it gets tough! Good luck whatever you decide. I am sure Nutrena is a good feed.

Thanks. I am just torn over GMO crap and I noticed the other day after I bought and opened this bag, that it has soy bean protein (think that was what it was called) and I bought died.

I can't get 50lbs of anything to last 3 weeks, we are lucky that two 25 lb bags of the other feed lasts a week. And It looks like this 50 lb bag is not going to last more than a week either. We have 15 chickens too and 8 ducks, the ducks are like shovels. They go through the majority of the feed. :/ I just wish our local mill would just tell me where they get their corn from, but I am sure it is full of GMO.
